Recently, changes in TSBDE Rules and Regulations were made to address the opioid and drug abuse epidemic, including mandatory continuing education programs for dental practitioners.  This program is designed to meet TSBDE Rule 111.1 and familiarize dentists and dental team members with current, important issues in the use of drug therapy, with an emphasis on scientific evidence to support therapeutic decisions.  The course will also cover the recognition and prevention of drug abuse and diversion. Included in this course are focused updates and reviews of learning objectives:

  • Review TSBDE Rules & Regulations related to the prescription of controlled substances
  • Assessment of acute pain associated with various dental procedures
  • Review of the clinical pharmacology and NSAID and opioid analgesics
  • Selection of opioid and non-opioid analgesics for various clinical scenarios
  • Basic characteristics & operating features of the Texas Prescription Monitoring program
