Dr. Jim Tyree

Dr. Jim Tyree has been a member of the Capital Area Dental Society since 1986 and practices at MoPac and Bee Cave Rd. His true passion is for competitive bass fishing.
When Jim was 5 years old, his great aunt taught him how to fish. Around 1991, he began to learn about bass clubs and how the competitive fishing groups worked and now has won tournaments and is qualified for a $10,000.00 first place tournament in Belton in November.

Dr. Tyree graduated from Texas A&M University and attended dental school “at a school in San Antonio”.  Once an Aggie, always an Aggie ! He has a 19 year old son, Andrew, currently attending Texas A&M who also works as a disc jockey there.

Jim fishes with his 15 year old son, Taylor, on the national circuit and in other events with his girlfriend, Donna Hannel and says that, “he fishes between two corrupt third world countries, which is anywhere between Louisiana and Mexico”.

Jim will be competing in the Texas Association of Bass Clubs State Tournament on October 28-29th at Lake Sam Rayburn.  He has won a regional qualifying tournament at Lake Amistad (Del Rio) hosted by Anglers’ Choice in 1998 and took home $1,500.00 in winnings.  In 1996 he won first of 82 boats at Honey Hole regional qualifying at Lake Whitney winning $1,600.00.

When asked about the biggest bass he has ever caught, Jim told me about an 8 pounder he caught at Lake McQueeny in New Braunfels. He describes fishing, competitive bass fishing in particular, as extremely addicting. As with most fishermen, he was hesitant to give specifics about what bait or lures he liked to use, answering, “it really depends on the lake and the season”.

Jim is looking forward to the days where he and Donna can go fishing anytime they feel like it – which sounds like everyday!
