Dental Events & Oddities

Another summer gone as schools begin new sessions and family vacations are over. Normal schedules resume and football season is upon us even though it will be awhile before the temperatures drop enough to make it feel like fall. My family took a trip to several locations in Colorado and enjoyed the coolness and beauty of the mountains. If you have a summer experience to share, please let me know and I will put it in the next Capital Star.

It seems like a long time from now, but your Capital Area Dental Foundation is already working on the next Gala, which will be held in February. Details to come on the theme, venue and date. Make plans to be a part of the great work your Foundation is doing! Additionally, CADS will host Dr. John Kois March 4, 2011. Do not miss this premier continuing education opportunity.

In the "What will They Think of Next” department, do not be surprised to have a patient ask for artwork on a crown. The "tooth tattoo” is now a reality whether we as individual dentists agree to participate in this practice or not. Heward Dental Lab in Sandy, Utah is offering custom artwork on crowns and bridges it fabricates. Their website, www.toothartist.com not only shows examples and fees for anyone to see, but even has a laboratory prescription form for the patient to download and take to their dentist. The entire process is described to the patient.

Thanks for the opportunity to be the Editor of your newsletter and I welcome any feedback, ideas for articles, or especially a guest editorial. Have a great Fall season!
