Dr. Stanley LaCroix named CADS Dentist of the Year

More than five years ago, Stan LaCroix was asked to serve on a committee for the Capital Area Dental Society and became hooked on the satisfaction that comes with promoting the profession through organized dentistry.

First, Stan served as Assistant Editor and then was elected as Treasurer, Secretary, President-Elect, and President. During this time he has worked tirelessly initiating programs such as the DOC program. He has served as an Alternate Delegate or Delegate to the Texas Dental Association each year since 2003. He has been awarded four Presidential Service Awards from past CADS Presidents.

Stan was our first webmaster and was instrumental in the development of the site. He created a New Member packet that is given to all new CADS members outlining the organization, its benefits, and its opportunities.

Other areas of service to the community include serving two years as Dentistry Merit Badge Counselor (2008 & 2009) for the Boy Scouts of America. He has participated in numerous Texas Mission of Mercy and Smiles on Wheels, in-state dental missions with the Texas Dental Association Smiles Foundation. He is a Donated Dental Services Volunteer Dentist and has seen patients from this program regularly since 2003. Stan spent many hours of service with the Theo Project, the Lanier Project, and Swinging for Smiles Golf Tournaments associated with our long time collaborative partner, St. David’s Foundation.

Dr. LaCroix was one of the founding members of the Capital Area Dental Foundation and has served as Treasurer since its inception. He has worked on the Gala Committee for the past five years.

Born in Midland, Texas, Stan’s family moved to Houston where he attended High School. He attended the University of Texas at Austin 1971-1974 earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from the UT Houston Dental Branch in 1978.

Stan worked with handicapped, mentally retarded, and post head trauma patients as staff dentist for the Brown Schools for ten years (1979 – 1989). He has been a team member with Mobile Loaves & Fishes delivering food and clothing to Austin homeless since 2007.

Stan is committed to continuing dental education. One example is that he was a Charter Member of the Central Texas Study Club 2007 and his participation is ongoing. He received a perfect attendance award three years running.

Dr LaCroix enjoys beating his friends in golf and rock music. He and his wife Susan, have two children, Sam and Emily.

Congratulations to Dr. LaCroix!
