Dentists on Campus Program Recognized by City of Austin
Austin Mayor, Lee Leffingwell, proclaimed February 2010 as Children’s Dental Health Month. The proclamation reads as follows:
Be it known that Whereas,
Recent studies target tooth decay as the single most common childhood disease, affecting nearly 60% of US children. Poor dental health contributes to absences from school and other obstacles to learning: and,
Whereas,
Through the "Dentists on Campus” program, dentists from St. David’s Foundation and the Capital Area Dental Society will teach 3rd graders at more than 20 area schools proper brushing techniques and will answer questions about dental health: and
Whereas,
We urge all Austinites-especially parents- to learn more about good dental health and to help their children form good, life-long dental habits:
Now, Therefore,
I, Lee Leffingwell, Mayor of the City of Austin, Texas do hereby proclaim February 2010 as Children’s Dental Health Month in Austin.
Accepting the Proclamation from Mayor Leffingwell are Mr. Earl Maxwell, CEO of St. David’s Foundation, Ms.Stacy Wilson, of the Travis County Health Care District, Dr. Stan LaCroix, President of the Capital Area Dental Society and Treasurer of the Capital Area Dental Foundation, and Dr. Kavin Kelp, Vice-Chair of the Capital Area Dental Foundation.
A special thanks to Dr. Ensy Atarod for her meticulous attention to detail in the production of the DOC’s program and Ms. Emily LaCroix for her work in the development of the power point presentation.
