Notes from the Boardroom

This year is off to an exciting start. The first Board meeting is over and the Board is tasked for the year. Goals have been identified and your committee chairs are working to achieve them. I’d like to list some of what is in store for the coming year.

  • The Dental Health Committee will be organizing our educational effort. It has been officially named Dentists on Campus (DOC). It will be tailored for third grade student presentations.
  • The Membership Committee will continue to revise and distribute the booklet developed for new members. A push will also be made to re-sign members who have dropped out and to encourage non-members to join.
  • The Capital Area Dental Foundation is pursuing two projects this year and is actively involved in fundraising efforts.
  • Dr. Katz and the newly formed Member Benefits Committee is forming a for profit corporation to mimic the TDA Perks Program on a local level.

All of these endeavors are only possible in the setting of organized dentistry. These are just a few reasons why we belong and pay dues. Without the continued support of all our members, none of these things could be accomplished. As an organization we are dealing with access to care issues, dental education issues, public image issues and making our profession what we would like it to be. Without our continued coordinated vigilance and efforts, our profession will be overrun by others who would change it for their own gain. We have a local society that is respected across the entire state for our efforts and hard work. You can be proud to belong.

I will be asking our committees to expand this year and include more general members in their work. Please do not hesitate to volunteer or join if asked. Our continued success is dependent on member participation. The rewards are always greater than the effort expended. Try it - you’ll like it!

Sincerely,

Stanley A. LaCroix, DDS
President, CADS
