Thanks to the dozens of local dentists that took time out of their practices to attend the TDA Legislative Day. I found this one to be the best organized yet. It is most important that we show up in numbers and I had several key people at the Capitol remark that our turnout is much better than other professional organizations. Yes, they do notice. Included in this issue of the Capital Star is a summary of the day.

 

The Capital Area Dental Foundation has retained the services of Ms. Victoria Corcoran as a development consultant. She will be interviewing the members of the Board of the Foundation, the Advisory Board, and key CADS leaders so that she can help us finely tune our mission and objectives. We will use this information in a retreat to define our direction and develop an action plan to advance the work of the Foundation.

 

The Texas Dental Association Smiles Foundation has been busy across the state. In addition to the ongoing Donated Dental Services program, TDASF has received a grant from the Meadows Foundation for its’ new Smiles on Wheels program. These are small scale TMOMs’ that are one-day missions geared to serve remote areas of the state. Three have been completed and have been a big success. These locations were Rockdale, Crockett, and Los Fresnos, which is near Brownsville. There are five more Smiles on Wheels events planned to date. There will be a TMOM in El Paso on October 16^th & 17^th and another in Lubbock on November 13^th & 14^th.

 

Drs. Pam Singletary, Bill Heggen, and Roland Davies were featured in a story about our Safari in the TDA Today. CADS member Dr. Russell McFarlane was featured in the same issue in a story titled “Growing Good Dentists”.

 

Make plans to attend the Installation of Officers meeting on Thursday, May 14^th. The location this year is Trattoria Lisina, located at the picturesque Mandola Estate Winery.
