The Best of the Best

As CADS Editor, I have the opportunity and privilege to see many of the behind-the-scenes activities of our dental society.  For example, Dr. Jeff Brunson currently serves as Treasurer and sent the executive board his suggestion for an all-day seminar for 2011 to host one of the premier speakers in dentistry.  Past President Karen Frazer is helping with administrative issues with our website hosting concern.  President Radwanski has again provided an insightful Presidents Message for this Star.  The executive committee and our Executive Director met to formulate next years budget.  The special events committee has been busy planning the Texas Safari to be held on February 7, 2009.  (Be there!) We have sponsors that support what we do because they believe in what we are about.  Our meetings are well attended because our members know that they can expect a first class program every time.

I’m not exaggerating when I say that there are upwards of one hundred examples of continuous activity performed by many for the betterment of your Capital Area Dental Society and the profession as a whole each month. We have systems in place and they work! CADS has a long history of folks that take their duties seriously and perform. Is it any wonder that we have 6-8 new members join every month? Could this be the reason why our society is recognized as one of the best in Texas?  Yes on both counts.

It does take work to be the best. There are always those willing to step up with great ideas and complete the tasks necessary to turn ideas into reality for you and me.

Why do these people devote their time to the many functions that make our dental society great?  I am convinced that if you ask this question of leadership, committee members, and active members, they will tell you that:

1)      They believe in the goals and principles of CADS and the profession of dentistry.
2)       Involvement in dental organizations and the community is part of the responsibility of being a professional.
3)       Working with colleagues is tremendously fulfilling. Getting to know one another is invaluable and always entertaining.
4)      It is an invaluable opportunity to be more fully engaged in the profession and therefore more appreciate the gift of belonging to it.

For all of those that have served, continue to serve, and plan to serve in the future – thank you because you are the reason why the Capital Area Dental Society is the best in the best state in the best country in the world. See you all at the Texas Safari.
