President's Message Dec 2008
Published: Dec 1, 2008
Doctor, You Made a Good Choice!
Instead of my usual rambling on about the state of the dental world at your CADS, I want to use this space to count our blessings at CADS. We’d need a few pages to list them all, but I’ll try to summarize them in a few paragraphs.
First of all, what a great year for our upcoming leaders of CADS with the arrival of their newborn babies. Congratulations to Dr. Eric Hollander, our CADS Treasurer, and wife Shelley for newborn son named Hayden, born during our monthly CADS board meeting in October. Great excuse to get out of a board meeting Eric. Also, CADS 2008 New Dentist of the Year, Dr. Jackie Vo and husband Jeff gave birth to a new baby girl named Kaitlyn in late October. We welcome them with open arms into our extended CADS family.
I want to thank the founding members of our newly formed Capital Area Dental Foundation (CADF) for the incredible and dedicated work in putting this together. We are all very proud of you, especially the always energetic Dr. Leonard Dolce, who once again, initiated an idea along with superb help from several CADS members that made it all happen.
A special thanks to your CADS 2008-09 board that continues to serve you well. I am always amazed at the dedication and service these CADS members continue to put forth, some for many, many years. We are also very blessed to have Nancy Nisbett as our Executive Director for the past 8 years. She is a very special person and we are fortunate to have her working with us.
At a recent tailgate party, I visited with a well known dentist from the Houston area that said he had read a CADS Star article I wrote talking about “my mistakes and if I had to do it again in the dental world, what would I have done differently?" He told me that the biggest mistake he made was, “I didn’t move to Austin”. He said that sentiment is shared by many dentists he knows from Houston. It's not that Houston is an undesirable place to live; it is just that many feel Austin's got the edge. So you see, CADS doctors, you made a very good decision with your selection of Austin as your home.
Thanks to many of you, we do have a lot to be thankful for. Wishing you a truly blessed Holiday Season!
