The 149th Annual Session of the American Dental Association was held in San Antonio October 15th through the 22nd. This is the first time the meeting was held in San Antonio. Thanks to the many CADS members that volunteered their time to make this meeting a huge success. From the many positive comments I heard from out of state attendees, I would expect ADA to have another annual session in San Antonio in the near future.
Texas’ own, Dr. John Findley was inducted as ADA President.
Local dentists inducted into the International College of Dentists include Dr. Glenda Smith, Dr. John Rugeley, Dr. Wayne Radwanski, Dr. Lance Sanders, Dr. Karen Frazer, Dr. Kelly Keith, and Dr. Kavin Kelp.
Dr. Keith and Dr. Kelp were also inducted into the American College of Dentists.
In legislative news, DENPAC released a report on state elections on November 11, 2008. The following is a summary of the report.
The Texas House has 150 members, and Republicans hold a slim 76 to 74 majority. A few very close races could be contested however. In the Texas Senate, the Republicans have a majority of members at 19 to 12 Democrats.
DENPAC contributed to 112 candidates this election cycle. Of the 12 Senate seats DENPAC was involved in, 11 won and one was defeated – a 92% success rate. In 100 House races, 95 won and 5 were defeated – a 95% success rate.
“Judging by the success rates, clearly the grassroots efforts by DENPAC and our key legislative contacts continue to play pivotal roles in the election of public officials.”

Congratulations to Dr. Eric Hollander and wife Shelley on the birth of son Hayden on October 2! Also, Congratulations are in order to Dr. Jackie Vo and husband Jeff on the birth of Kaitlyn on October 26.
